Global Dialogues Program

The Global Dialogues Program adds value to a Purdue degree by transforming the ways students view themselves and navigate the world. It has been shown that peoples’ differences prevent them from connecting, communicating, and interacting with each other. The Global Dialogues program is designed to promote understanding of the varying life experiences and values of College of Science domestic and international students.  It aims to transform communication and relationships leading to collaboration both in and outside of the classroom at Purdue and beyond.

Completion of the program entitles the participant to 6 Learning Beyond the Classroom points in the Experience with Domestic and International Diversity category. Participants are also eligible to apply to join the College of Science Global Science Partners leadership team --- a paid position --- following completion of the program.

Activities for Global Dialogues:

  • Bi-weekly dinner meetings with programs
  • Cultural Trip to Chicago or Indianapolis
  • Create & organize a service event

Student Testimonials

"In Global Dialogues, we really get the chance to have important and difficult conversations with each other, all the while we are learning and having fun.
Dylan Forbes - Chemistry

"Global Dialogues has allowed me to understand different cultures in a more in-depth way. It also led to me to build a closer bond with others in this community. I am also able to try new foods that I did not expect myself to try before coming to college. It has made my Monday nights more enjoyable.”
Tina Lin - Applied Statistics

“Having participated as a freshman in the Global Science Partnerships Learning Community, I see global dialogues as a natural extension of the topics that were presented in the learning community. In global dialogues, I got the chance to have a conversation about cultural differences as opposed to a cut and dry lecture. It allowed me to see that diversity isn't just a buzz word- it's a fluid part of our world that directs every conscious or unconscious interaction.”
Elizabeth Frye - Biology

“Monday nights with Global Dialogues was a highlight of my semester! I always looked forward to eating and talking with the group!”
Jenna - Statistics

“By participating in Global Dialogues not only did I get a better understanding of the world, learn about others and learn about myself, I also met people that I would not have by just taking classes. I have met many of my close friends through this program”
Heather - EAPS

"I really have enjoyed my experiences with the Global Dialogues because I have made some really nice friends from all over the world, and I was able to help put together a really cool event in service to the Purdue student body!"
Hannah - Computer Science

“Global Dialogues was a great experience. I learned about several cultures, made new friends, and it felt as though we were our own little world. I was able to broaden my perspectives about the diversity around me. One my favorite activities was the Chicago field trip where we went to the Shedd aquarium and learned more about the city itself. This event gave us all a time to really bond and get to know each other. I made several friends, and I developed many wonderful relationships from Global Dialogues. I wish it didn't end so soon!”
