Steering Committee
The steering committee’s role is to oversee and guide the strategic planning process. It will set the mission and vision and identify several audacious goals for the 2008—2014 plan. The steering committee will have deep interaction with the Pillar group committees (Pillar co-chairs sit on the steering committee) and charge them to formulate strategies to support the major strategic priorities. The Pillar groups will complete their reports by early May for review by the steering committee, which will then consolidate the inputs and form a final strategic plan in September, 2008.
The steering committee membership includes faculty members, staff, students, and alumni from the College of Science, as well as key representatives from the President’s Office, Discovery Park, the College of Engineering, and Purdue Research Park.
Pillar Groups
The Pillar Group committees are charged with formulating strategies and priorities that will support the major priorities established by the steering committee. There are four Pillar groups that reflect the values and visions of the College:
- Discovery: expanding the realm of knowledge in the basic and applied sciences;
- Learning: supporting education and the dissemination of scientific knowledge;
- Engagement:the exchange of scientific skills and understanding;
- Diversity: creating a community at the college that mirrors our diverse cultural, international, and multidisciplinary world.
Pillar groups are co-chaired by an associate dean and a professor from the college. Committee membership includes faculty members, students, and staff from the College of Science.
