Message from the Dean
Global science for global problems—creating a strategic plan to guide the College of Science into the future
We are gearing up to start our third month of the College of Science’s strategic planning effort. The steering and Pillar Group committee members are working very hard to design the goals and strategies that will allow us to see where the College is now, as well as guide our decisions moving forward. Our goal is to create innovations and impact. We will build new pathways for science and discovery. Our input as output will be global scientists equipped to understand and solve some of the enormous challenges facing modern society. Thanks to the brilliance and collective knowledge of the strategic planning committee members—a very impressive multidisciplinary team—I am confident that we will have a plan that positions the College as a strategic partner for the university and powerful leader amongst its peers.
The next phase of the process is focused on capturing inputs and feedback from the College’s constituents and stakeholders for incorporation into the strategic plan. We are holding two Town Hall meetings on April 4th and 9th to provide an opportunity for faculty, students, and staff to learn about the goals and strategies established by the committees and provide feedback. We have created a webpage for your input—we want to know what you think is important. The success of the College’s strategic plan ultimately depends on the full participation of its members and I strongly encourage you to add your voice and ideas.
The 2008−2014 strategic plan will play a pivotal role in the growth and development of the College of Science and its impact will extend well into the future. It is a truly exciting time for science and its importance has never been greater. Please help us to create a plan that will have the potential to change the world.
