Global science for global problems—creating a strategic plan to guide the College of Science into the future

The College of Science strategic planning effort is now well into its middle phase.  The Pillar groups worked very hard this spring to draft the goals, strategies, and metrics that will form the foundation of the 2008–2014 strategic plan.  On April 4 and 9, the Pillar groups hosted two open town hall meetings—inviting all Science faculty, students, and staff as well as colleagues from across campus.  Everyone at the town hall meetings was asked to rank the goals and strategies as well as provide suggestions and comments.  The response was excellent and we will incorporate the feedback into the final plan.  We’ve placed the town hall presentations and feedbacks forms online and welcome your input.

The town hall approach to strategic planning continues on May 1 and 2 when we meet with the Dean’s Leadership Council (DLC).  The DLC is phenomenal group of alumni and friends whose expertise and support for the College is instrumental to our growth and development.  The DLC’s participation in the effort will focus on how to implement the plan effectively.

The College’s strategic planning effort remains closely aligned with the eight visions set out by the University, which recently released a draft of its New Synergies plan.  I highly recommend reading it.  It is a bold and comprehensive plan, and we look forward to partnering with President Córdova to achieve her goals for Purdue University.

Next steps in the planning process include a May 27 steering committee meeting to prioritize the goals, strategies, and metrics, followed by a June 25 meeting to review the first draft of the College plan.  As you can see, we are moving full speed ahead into our next 100 years of Science at Purdue!
