Diversity Vision
Purdue College of Science's core value is the belief in collegiality, professionalism, and mutual respect. These beliefs are central to developing positive relationships among members. We envision a College of Science community that is composed of faculty, staff, and students with diverse perspectives and experiences based on-among other factors-race, ethnic heritage, socioeconomic background, gender, sexual orientation, and disability. We value a culture that nurtures nationally underrepresented groups such as African Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans, Native Pacific Islanders, and women.
Diversity Goal I
1. Build a community within the College of Science reflecting the diversity of Indiana and the nation in which underrepresented groups achieve a self-sustaining critical mass of successful faculty, students, and staff.
The College of Science will annually commit funds to enable the hiring of "targets of opportunity" to increase the diversity of our faculty and explore programs to aid recruitment.
Each department will be required to develop a written plan for achieving diversity for their Department.
Departments will be required to develop and implement programs aimed to recruit and retain underrepresented faculty, staff, and students. Expect family issues to be addressed in order to retain students, staff, and faculty.
Improve the climate for underrepresented faculty, students, and staff

Diversity Goal II
2. Provide opportunities within the College of Science for growth and professional success for all faculty, staff, and students
The College and Departments will offer more leadership training and leadership opportunities to women and underrepresented faculty and staff.
The College and each department will increase the number of educational opportunities and financial support for students that will increase the diversity of the College.
Broaden the group of students engaged in research opportunities in the College

Diversity Goal III
3. Engage the entire College of Science Community in promoting the shared responsibility of Diversity
Create a College of Science External Advisory Committee to meet with faculty, staff, and students to assess workplace climate and report to the Dean results and recommended actions for improvement
Include diversity activities in the reward system for faculty and staff
The College and each department will institutionalize diversity within the existing committee structure
Create an overarching science student council with representation from each of the existing student committees to promote diversity in all student groups
