Purdue Science Centennial:
100 Years of Imagination and Innovation
It was 1907 when Stanley Coulter was appointed Purdue’s first dean of Science, and 100 years later, science has transformed Purdue and our society. We celebrate the last hundred years and look forward to all the next century has to hold.
The College kicked off Centennial celebrations with the MythBusters on October 28. Rounding out the events, was a visit on March 29 by acclaimed primatologist Jane Goodall, PhD, DBE. Between these two special occasions, the College will hosted a series of distinguished lectures in each of the science disciplines.
Did you know that a science student was an integral part of writing Purdue’s school song? Read about that and 99 other tidbits on the trivia page. We want to hear from you! Do you have a story (or two) about your time at Purdue? Share your memories with us on the Centennial Web site and help build the Science Centennial community! En-"capsule"-ating a century
What better time to assemble a time capsule, right? Since we can't actually put our professors in a time capsule as we discussed at the MythBusters event, we need some suggestions from you! Submit your ideas. The College of Science students will vote on them and the final items will be revealed in the spring.
MythBusters kick off the Centennial celebration!
Discovery Channel's MythBusters greeted a packed house at Elliott Hall of Music on Sunday, October 28, to kick off the College of Science's Centennial Celebration.
They're not trained scientists, they stressed, but they enjoy what they do and they hope that people will see the show, get excited, and ask a trained scientist to tell them more about it. In addition to answering questions, Jamie and Adam shared a segment—the myths of flatulence—that didn't air on TV.
